SLIDE FLOATING

We last heard from Swedish pairing Albin Skeppholm and Simon Werner with their indie-rock brawl ‘Laugh Some More’, and we’re pleased to hear more from the promising duo; this time in a dreamier form. ‘Floating’ is purposefully head-in-the-clouds, as Albin explains: “We liked the idea of this hallucinatory element of some of the instrumental being present in the lyrics as well. I think it’s about losing yourself in thought, and maybe losing yourself in love too.” From the start, the warped guitars set the rhythm for ‘Floating’, and everything else follows suit, going with the endless flow and bleeding into the hooky chorus - “maybe I’ll get high, floating off inside.” There’s a post-grunge flair to this new song, leaving out the nineties nihilism and instead opting for more modern escapism. Most importantly, Slide leave it up to listener to interpret what this exit route is. ‘Floating’ is taken from Slide’s debut EP, Into Happiness, which is set for release in Spring 2019. - Hannah Thacker
